The warmest day of the year yet and blood oranges are in season. Perfect. I’ve had a citrus craving all week. It started with grapefruits which I had three days running for breakfast (no I’m not pregnant!) and then I got excited when I remembered that it is blood orange season.
Blood oranges are a divine thing, the sweetness of an orange, a slight tartness and with an infusion of something like cranberries or perhaps blackberries. They originate from the Mediterranean and the best ones come from Sicily. They have a relatively short season from December until March so best to get them now before they disappear.
So my citrus obsession this week has led to two recipes – one meal and one delicious juice.
Sweet Citrus Breakfast
- 1 Blood Orange
- 1 Pink Grapefruit
- 1 Naval Orange
- Sprig of Garden Mint
- 200g Red Grapes
- 1/4 Lemon
- 1/4 Lime
Peel lemon and lime. Place grapes, lemon and lime in juicer and juice ingredients. Finely chop the mint and add to the grape juice. Set aside and let it steep for mins.
Peel and slice blood orange, pink grapefruit and orange. Arrange in a dish. Pour grape juice over the fruit. Serve and Enjoy!
